Question
Some of my relatives who do not follow any school of thought argue that originally there were no schools of thought during the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him), and they apply what is easiest in everything. What is the ruling on this?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: This matter is very harmful to its owner, as he can hardly know a legal ruling with it; rather, his desires play with him as he wishes, and one fears for its owner a bad outcome; because they said: Abandoning the schools of thought begins with sophistry and ends with heresy, and God knows best.
