Question
What is the punishment for someone who mourns excessively for the deceased? Is there an expiation for them?
Answer
I say, and with God's guidance: Crying for the deceased is permissible; because it is beyond the control of the one afflicted by this calamity. As for what involves excessive mourning or other such acts, it is not permissible according to Islamic law. Whoever does this should seek forgiveness from God Almighty and repent from their actions, and there is no specific expiation required for it. And God knows best.
