The Ruling on Making Tax Zakat
We have a sales tax of 2.50% on every product. Is it permissible for us to intend the zakat when paying this tax, or should zakat be paid separately?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: Zakat is different from tax, and tax does not suffice in place of zakat; because the recipients of zakat are the poor, and God knows best.
