The Ruling on Hanging Pictures in Rooms
What is the ruling on hanging pictures of children on the walls or placing them on the desk, for example? Is this forbidden, and does it prevent prayer in places where they are located?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: The photographic image is not what is meant by the prohibition of angels entering or the prohibition on placing images; rather, what is meant is the drawn, sculpted, or engraved image. These were the ones that were prohibited during the time of the Prophet, peace be upon him. Therefore, it is permissible to hang photographic images on walls and elsewhere without any dislike, and God knows best.
