The Ruling on Giving Zakat Before the Year Completes

Question
I have been accustomed to giving my Zakat during the month of Ramadan, and the money I currently possess was purified during last Ramadan. I have a neighbor who is going through a financial hardship. Is it permissible for me to give him some money now and consider it as part of my Zakat for the coming Ramadan, God willing?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: It is permissible to pay zakat before the due date of the lunar year; it is permissible to give it to your neighbor and count it as part of your zakat. And God knows best.
