Question
There are those who say that the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him) is a 'method.' So, whoever imitates a person like Al-Jahmi, Al-Ash'ari, Al-Maturidi, or others, and then claims that he is following the Sunnah, has equated his imam with the Prophet (peace be upon him). What is the response to this statement?
Answer
I say, and with God's guidance: All the scholars of the nation in our history attribute in creed to the Ash'ari and Maturidi schools, and in jurisprudence to the Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i, and Hanbali schools. If this statement were true, this nation would be misguided and misguiding with its scholars and the general public. And God knows best.
