Question
A lady said: If her grandson is discharged from the hospital, she will sacrifice a sheep for him. Is this considered a vow? And if so, what is the ruling on her son and his family eating from the vow?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: If the statement includes something that necessitates commitment to it, such as saying: "I have to sacrifice for God..." or she said: "I will go to God with a sheep...", then it is a vow and she is obligated to sacrifice or pay its value. If she sacrifices, it is not permissible for her or any of her children to eat from it; because it is the right of the poor. And God knows best.
