Question
My brother's sister passed away some time ago, and she left us an amount of about 1400 shekels. Some of it was spent on funeral and burial expenses, and the remaining amount is 650 shekels. We want to distribute it to her sisters. Is this correct? Because they want to give the amount in her name to the needy, and her sisters are in need?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: the entire amount left is her inheritance, and it is distributed among the brothers to manage as they wish, unless they all agree to give it to the poor, in which case it is permissible to give it to them. If some of them are poor, it is preferable for them to give it to them, as in the mentioned case where it is given to the poor sisters. And God knows best.
