Question
What is the ruling on describing someone from among humans with certain attributes, such as: the Great or the Generous, as in saying: I met the generous so-and-so, or I imagined with the great so-and-so?
Answer
I say, and may Allah grant success: These attributes have a state that is suitable for creatures, which is different from what is suitable for the Creator. We say so-and-so is merciful, and Allah is merciful, but they are completely different. The greatness of a human is different from the greatness of the Creator, and thus there is no harm in attributing these qualities to creatures. And Allah knows best.
