Question
I heard a Sheikh commenting on the interpretation of the verse (Woe to those who pray but are heedless of their prayer), saying that its meaning is to delay the prayer beyond its time. You say that the time for prayer extends to its last specified time according to your school of thought. If I delay the Dhuhr prayer and pray it, for example, at 3 PM, have I prayed outside of its time?
Answer
There is no disagreement that the time for prayer is from the beginning of the appointed time until its end, but the disagreement is about which is preferable: the beginning of the time or any time during the prayer, whether it is equal in preference. This is the discussion, and the interpretation of the verse is applied to those who delay the prayer beyond its time, meaning they pray Dhuhr at the time of Asr, for example. And Allah knows best.
