The Ruling on Aqiqah and Who is Obligated to Perform It
A divorced woman, with her children with her, asks: Is the Aqiqah upon her or upon the father of the children?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: The 'Aqiqah' is an act of devotion like any blood that is sacrificed for the sake of God Almighty. Therefore, if either the father or the mother desires this reward, they can perform it, but it is not obligatory for either of them. And God knows best.
