The Ruling on a Mother Retrieving the Dowry Money Given to Her Daughter Who is About to Marry Again
A mother gave her daughter an amount of one thousand dollars to prepare for her marriage. The daughter was divorced and returned to the same husband, and she did not buy clothes for the dowry. She is employed, and now the mother needs the money. Is it permissible for the mother to retrieve the money from her daughter, considering that the mother's intention was to buy her daughter clothing with that money, and the daughter did not buy anything?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: If you inform her that this money is for this purpose, she is allowed to go back; and if you do not inform her and you give her the money, she is not allowed to go back. And God knows best.
