Question
What is the ruling on a fasting person who deliberately eats or drinks during the day in Ramadan?
Answer
Whoever eats or drinks something that is beneficial for his body, and it is usually eaten with the intention of nourishment, treatment, or enjoyment, must make up the fast and pay a compensation. Raw meat, even from a dead animal, requires compensation because it is intended for nourishment and the well-being of the body. This is unlike a bite that is taken out cold and put back, as it is repulsive to the soul, and unlike dough, and unlike when meat is spoiled, as there is no compensation for that because it is no longer considered food.
