The Reason for the Single Salutation in Witr
What is the reason for making the salutation in the Witr prayer a single salutation, and what is the ruling for someone who gives two salutations? Is there another prayer where the salutation is only one?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: This is an unqualified issue, and it has been reported from the Prophet, peace be upon him, that it is established among the Hanafi scholars that Witr consists of three rak'ahs with a single salutation, and it is not permissible for them in any other form. The issue is disputed among the schools of thought, and each adheres to its evidence in this matter, and God knows best.
