The Prohibited from Sea Animals

Question
We in China are suffering from a severe disagreement among scholars regarding seafood, as some emphasize that anything other than fish, such as shrimp, crab, and squid, is forbidden to eat. One group believes that shrimp of all types is considered fish according to the Hanafi school, while another group - which is predominant among scholars - holds that shrimp is disliked to the point of prohibition, and other creatures that are not fish or do not resemble fish are considered forbidden. Disputes and conflicts over this ruling have been ongoing for decades, and the issue does not stop at the ruling on shrimp alone; each group has a specific following, but each claims that its opinion is what the school adheres to. Therefore, we have turned to you, as your reputation has spread, and your books are well-known in the country and among trustworthy people.
Answer
It is well-known that shrimp is not considered fish, so it is not permissible according to the Hanafi school. However, one should not be strict on this issue, as there is a difference of opinion among the scholars of the Hanafi school. It is possible to benefit from the other schools of thought in this matter, and Allah knows best.
