The Postpartum Period for a New Mother if It Exceeds Forty Days

Question
If a new mother gives birth and her bleeding stops in the last thirty days, then returns before completing forty-five days from the time of birth?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: Her postpartum bleeding (nifas) is forty days; because it is permissible to conclude it with purity, and the second blood is considered istihada (irregular bleeding). If the blood returns after completing forty-five days, then the postpartum bleeding is only thirty days; because the purity here is complete, having reached fifteen days, thus separating between the two bloods. If the second blood reaches the threshold, it is menstruation (hayd), otherwise, it is istihada. Refer to: Dhakhr al-Mutahilin and Manhal al-Waridin, pages 66-68, and God knows best.
