Question
Is prostration for forgetfulness required if the imam recites Al-Fatiha aloud in the last two rak'ahs of the Maghrib or Isha prayer? If the answer could include references, it would be better. Thank you very much.
Answer
I say, and with God's help: A prostration of forgetfulness (sujud as-sahw) is required if the imam raises his voice in what should be whispered, or whispers in what should be raised if he is forgetful, as mentioned in Badā'iʿ al-Ṣanā'iʿ: 1/161, al-Ikhtiyār: 1/73, and al-Hidāyah: 1/74, and in most of the relied-upon books of the Hanafis. And God knows best.
