Question
I placed my hand on the Quran and swore to my husband that I would not take any of his money for my personal expenses, so that he would not keep reproaching me about this expense. What is the ruling on this oath, and is it permissible for me to give up my personal expenses to avoid his reproach?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: this is a binding oath, and a compensation for the oath is required upon breaking it, which is to give twenty dinars to ten needy people. As for maintenance, it is obligatory on your husband, and the woman has no right to personal expenses if she receives housing, clothing, and food. And God knows best.
