The Mouse Falling into a Well Three Meters Deep
If the mouse falls into a well that has an area of less than ten by ten, but its depth is approximately three meters, is there a saying among the Hanafi scholars that considers depth rather than area, and can we issue a fatwa regarding its purity out of necessity, especially in villages?
Answer
I say, and with Allah's success: Depth is not considered according to the Hanafi school; the relied-upon measure is ten by ten. However, there are other opinions in the school, but they are weak, and thus they should not be issued as fatwas. And Allah knows best.
