Question
I have not been pregnant for seven years, and the last time I was pregnant, my son died during childbirth. I prayed to God afterward for pregnancy, and I said that if I became pregnant, I would fast on Mondays and Thursdays, until I give birth, but it is not a vow. Now I expect that I am pregnant; if I confirm the pregnancy, should I start fasting, or should I start from now, as I usually fast on Mondays and Thursdays?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: This would be a voluntary fast for you if it is not a vow, and it is not obligatory upon you. It is permissible for you to fast as much as you are able to, in gratitude to God Almighty, and God knows best.
