The Imam Does Not Appoint a Successor if He Begins Without Wudu

Question
I saw a fatwa from you stating that if the imam enters the prayer and then remembers that he is not in a state of wudu, he does not appoint a successor, but this matter is contrary to what is required. What are the opinions of the jurists on this issue, and what do they base their views on?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: Following a pure person (a person in a state of ritual purity) behind someone who is in a state of ritual impurity is not permissible according to us. Therefore, the imam cannot appoint someone else as his deputy; because it was known that he was not in a state of purity from the beginning, so his intention for the prayer and the actions did not count. According to some, the congregation's prayer is valid, but the imam's prayer is invalid, and God knows best.
