The Grandmother Paying Zakat al-Fitr for Her Orphaned Grandchildren
A woman has three grandchildren, the children of her daughter, whose father has been missing for years, and their mother has left them and remarried. The grandmother is responsible for them and provides for them. Is she required to pay Zakat al-Fitr for them?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: The Zakat al-Fitr is not obligatory for them; due to the lack of the condition of having a guardian who fully supports and oversees them, which is fulfilled in the father. And God knows best.
