The Difference Between Shaf' and Witr and the Ruling on Repeating Witr After Night Prayer
What is the difference between Shaf' and Witr? And is it obligatory for me to repeat Witr if my Lord has honored me with night prayer?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: The Witr prayer is not repeated; because there cannot be two Witr prayers in one night. The Shaf' refers to the prayer of two Rak'ahs, while Witr is the well-known prayer consisting of three Rak'ahs with an intermediate Tashahhud and one Tasleem. And God knows best.
