The Deferred Dowry
If a woman’s husband passes away, is she entitled to receive the dowry? And if she passes away before her husband, do her children inherit her dowry?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: The wife's dowry is considered a debt and should be taken from the estate before the division for the wife. If the wife dies, the husband is obligated to pay the wife's dowry to the heirs, and his share is reduced by the amount of his share, which is a quarter or half, and God knows best.
