Question
A woman made a covenant with Allah to read three parts of the Quran daily before the evening. In the beginning, she would finish before Maghrib, but due to being busy, she no longer completes the recitation before Maghrib. Is she sinful for neglecting her covenant? Is there an expiation required? What is meant by 'evening'? Is it the time of the Maghrib adhan or the Asr adhan?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: It is preferable for her to adhere to it as much as she can, and she is not obligated to do so if she does not; because the vow to read the Quran is not obligatory; as it is not a specific act of worship like prayer or fasting, and she can read it at any time during the day, and there is no harm in that; because it is good, so it is not limited to a specific time, and God knows best.
