The Authority of a Cousin in the Absence of the Closest Guardian
I have female cousins who are of marriageable age, and I am considered the closest to them in terms of living. What are my responsibilities if someone proposes to them for marriage, and do I have the right to refuse if the suitor is not competent?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: If I am not closer to them, then I would be the guardian responsible for their marriage, and it is possible to advise them on who is better for them and to marry them to those who are suitable for them, and God knows best.
