Tayammum for One Who Finds Water in a Well Prepared for Drinking
A traveler found water in a well prepared for drinking, is it permissible for him to perform tayammum for prayer?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: It is permissible, unless the water is abundant, in which case it is inferred that it is for drinking and ablution, so one should perform ablution from it and not perform tayammum. Refer to: Al-Muhit p. 317, Sharh Al-Wiqayah p. 106, and Umdat Al-Ri'ayah 1: 96, and God knows best.
