Question
At school, they hold a competition based on distributing a paper with questions on it, priced at (10) qirsh. At the end of the month, there is a draw for the papers (lottery), where (3) papers each win a prize of (5) dinars, and the remaining amount is given for the benefit of the poor student. Is this form of competition permissible, and does it resemble a lottery or gambling?
Answer
I say, and with God's guidance: This is a form of gambling, and it is not permissible according to Sharia. The funds should be collected initially for the poor, without a draw where some of the contributors receive money. And God knows best.
