Separating the Amount of Zakat al-Fitr from Money
Is it considered that I have given Zakat al-Fitr if I have separated the zakat amount from my money and set it aside for that purpose? Because I cannot deliver it to the deserving people whom I give zakat to every year after the Eid; the distance between us is far and I can only see them during Eid, and they know that I am saving the zakat for them?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: The Zakat al-Fitr is obligatory in a broad sense on the individual, therefore it is permissible to give it on the day of Eid or after Eid, whether it is separated from the wealth or not. It is considered fulfilled when given to the deserving, so your action is permissible without any dislike, and God knows best.
