Ruling on Zakat of Debt
I have an amount of money that has reached the nisab and a year has passed, but this money is not with me; it is a debt owed to me by my brothers. Is Zakat obligatory on it?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: You must pay zakat on it when the debt returns, and God knows best.
