Ruling on Zakat for Property Not Prepared for Trade
A man has three houses, he lives in one, and the other two are for his children when they grow up, but they are currently uninhabited. Does he owe Zakat on them?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: There is no zakat on real estate unless it is for trade; if it is for personal use, then there is no zakat on it, and God knows best.
