Ruling on Zakat for Land Not Prepared for Trade:
A person owns two plots of land; the first he wants to build a house on, and the second he has not decided what to do with yet, whether to leave it for his children, sell it, or invest it in the future if needed. Is Zakat obligatory on the second plot of land?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: Zakat is not obligatory on land unless it is intended for trade; therefore, it is not obligatory here, and God knows best.
