Ruling on Those Who Cannot Fast Due to Chronic Illness

Question
What is the ruling for someone who cannot fast due to a chronic illness?
Answer
He has the option to feed a poor person two satisfying meals for each day, or to pay the equivalent of the Zakat al-Fitr, which is half a sa' of wheat, equal to (1.820) kilograms, given to the poor. This ruling applies if he has not recovered from his illness; however, if Allah grants him recovery, he must make up the fast even if he has paid the compensation.
