Ruling on the Blood that Appears After Forty Days in Postpartum
A woman who has postpartum bleeding became pure at forty days, and after a week saw blood for 8 days. She prayed during these days, and then after 15 days saw bleeding throughout the day. Does she have to pray?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: The blood she saw after the forty days is considered blood of istihada (irregular bleeding), so she should pray and fast. As for the blood she saw after fifteen days, it is considered menstrual blood, and she should refrain from praying during that time. And God knows best.
