Question
A man of modest means has daughters and wants to undergo in vitro fertilization to be blessed with a male child; and since the procedure is expensive, is it permissible to give zakat to this man?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: If he is poor and does not own the minimum amount that exempts him from zakat, it is permissible to give him zakat so he can spend it as he wishes on medicine, food, surgery, or other needs. And God knows best.
