Ruling on Giving Charity to Christians and Zoroastrians

Question
If someone distributes some money and food to his neighbors and there are Christians and Zoroastrians among them, what is the ruling on that?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: It is permissible to give charity to a non-Muslim outside of the obligatory almsgiving, and a person can determine what is most appropriate in that regard, and God knows best.
