Ruling on Forgetting to Recite Anything Other than Al-Fatiha in Prayer
Does reciting Al-Fatiha in the first two units suffice for the requirement of recitation, or does it invalidate the prayer, knowing that I do this forgetfully?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: The pillar of reading is fulfilled by reciting an ayah from the Quran, and this is found in an ayah from Al-Fatiha. Reciting Al-Fatiha along with another surah is one of the obligations of prayer, and we do not need the intention for the recitation. Prostration for forgetfulness is required if Al-Fatiha or the surah is omitted, and God knows best.
