Ruling on Divorce Under Threat

Question
Although my husband is a mosque imam, he is married to his first wife, the mother of his children, who is so temperamental that she gets angry over trivial matters and asks him for a divorce or threatens to harm herself, such as by committing suicide or setting herself on fire, etc. This is all intimidation, and he feels compelled to say to her, 'You are divorced.' One time he divorced her, and she went to her family's house. After reconciling, she set conditions for her return, and then she came back. He says his intention is that he will not harm her in any way. The last time she asked him for a divorce, he told her, 'You are at your family's house,' and recently he said, 'I wish you would stay at your family's house.' What is the ruling?
Answer
I say, and with God's guidance: Divorce should not be inquired about through representation; the person themselves must communicate with a mufti and understand the situation from them, so that a ruling can be given, and God knows best.
