Question
I heard one of the scholars say that if a child dies before his mother and father, he will not intercede for them unless his father has sacrificed an Aqiqah for him; his intercession remains contingent upon the Aqiqah. My son passed away in 2018 at the age of 25 due to pneumonia, and he had special needs. Today I heard the scholar, so is it permissible for me to sacrifice for him if his father refuses to do so?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: This statement is not correct; the aqeeqah has no relation to intercession, and its slaughter is an act of devotion. There is a difference of opinion among the jurists regarding its Sunnah, and God knows best.
