Reversal of Divorce Oath

Question
My husband and I were having disagreements, so he swore an oath of divorce against me if I left the house without his permission. After we reconciled, I asked him to allow me to leave the house, and he agreed to this. Does his reversal mean that the divorce oath does not take effect?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: If at the time of his oath he meant to prevent you from leaving now, for example, or without his consent, then after his consent or the passage of time, it is permissible to leave. If the prohibition is absolute regarding your leaving, then the oath remains and the divorce occurs. You should consult the mufti to confirm the situation, and God knows best.
