Question
A teacher's husband stole items from several shops and does not know the value. If he donates an amount greater than the value, is that sufficient since he cannot go to the shops and say that he is a thief? What should he do? Note that he has repented, prays now, and gives charity?
Answer
I say, and with God's guidance: He must return the rights to their owners as long as they are present, and he should look for a suitable way to return it, even if he does so without informing them. If he is unable, he should inform them and return it to them in a manner he deems appropriate, and God knows best.
