Returning a Sold Item After Causing a Defect and Regretting It
A woman sinned when she bought a dress and caused a defect in it after taking it home, then returned it without informing the seller. Now, after 20 years, she regrets it. What should she do? Should she give charity because she is not sure if the seller is still around?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: If you are able to return the right to its owner, do so; otherwise, give in charity an amount equivalent to his right, and God knows best.
