Question
I finished the prayer and forgot to perform the prostration of forgetfulness. Then, after I moved away from the place of prayer by a few meters, I remembered and returned to the place of prayer and performed the prostration of forgetfulness. Is what I did correct?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: The prostration of forgetfulness (sujud al-sahw) for the prayer is not valid if any action contrary to the prayer is performed after the salutation, such as turning away from the qibla, moving, eating, or others. In the case presented, there was much movement, so it is not possible to base the prostration of forgetfulness on the prayer because of it. And God knows best.
