Reconciling the Permissibility of the Food of the People of the Book and the Prohibition of Eating from That Which Has Not Been Named with the Name of Allah
How do we reconcile between the two verses: {And the food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for you} and the verse {And do not eat from that upon which the name of Allah has not been mentioned}?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: The second verse is specific to Muslims, and it is permissible to slaughter the People of the Book because they resemble Muslims in slaughtering. However, if they abandon the teachings of their religion in this matter, it is not permissible to eat them, and God knows best.
