Preventing the Wife from Maintaining Family Ties
My husband prevents me from visiting my relatives under the pretext that this is not endorsed by the Prophet, peace be upon him, out of fear that my cousins or relatives might greet me. What is the ruling on this?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: If your visit to your relatives involves sinful presence or temptation, it is permissible for him to prevent you, and you must obey him. It is better for you to limit your relationships to those who are forbidden to you, and to occupy your time with worship, for it is better than general relationships. And God knows best.
