Question
How can a Muslim maintain the reward of fasting and the reward of acts of worship?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: A Muslim must be aware that fasting during this blessed month is more than just an obligation; it is indeed a support, assistance, and education from the Lord of Glory for him. This is because Allah, the Exalted, is self-sufficient and does not need His servants; rather, they are the ones in need of Him. He has commanded us to fast so that it serves as an educational course for the moral elevation of the individual, refining the soul and raising it up. Therefore, he should be very keen to perform the acts of worship in their entirety during this month, including the morning and evening remembrances, praying the Duha prayer, performing the confirmed Sunnah prayers and voluntary prayers such as four rak'ahs after Dhuhr, four before Asr, six after Maghrib, four after Isha, and the twenty rak'ahs of Taraweeh. He should also increase his reading and listening to the Quran, as this connects his heart to Allah, the Exalted, preserves his reward, and encourages him to continue this goodness beyond Ramadan, thus achieving success in this Ramadan course. And Allah knows best.
