Praying in Sandals

Question
Is praying in sandals one of the neglected Sunnahs?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: In "The Response of the Confused": In the hadith: (Pray in your sandals, and do not resemble the Jews and the Christians) narrated by Al-Tabarani, indicating its authenticity. I say: However, if there is a fear of contaminating the mosque's carpets with them, it should be avoided even if they are pure. As for the Prophet's Mosque, it was covered with pebbles during his time, peace be upon him, unlike in our time. Perhaps this is the basis for what is mentioned in "The Authority of the Mufti" that entering the mosque while wearing sandals is a sign of bad manners. The truth, in my opinion, is that entering the mosque while wearing sandals and praying in them, although permissible, is one of the issues that should not be fatwaed in our time, nor should it be practiced due to its leading to corruption and the criticism of the public; hence, I have issued a fatwa that it is a sign of bad manners. Among the good correspondence is what is mentioned in "The Opening of the Elevated" quoting some of the masters of perfection, stating that although it is permissible, it should not be done today, especially in the congregational mosques, as it may lead to a great corruption. In fact, one should not enter the mosque with sandals that are not intact or covered. For further details on this issue, see the utmost article regarding sandals by Imam Al-Laknawi.
