Performing a Third Unit in the Fajr Prayer
I prayed Fajr, and before the greeting, I stood up, raised my hands in Takbir, and started reciting, then I remembered that I was in the third unit. Should I repeat the prayer or go back and greet to finish the prayer?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: One must return to the last sitting and perform the prostration for forgetfulness and the salutation; because the addition beyond the two rak'ahs is not part of the prayer, so it must be abandoned and one must return to the sitting. And God knows best.
