Paying Zakat to My Niece
Is it permissible for me to give Zakat al-Fitr to my unmarried niece who is studying at university and lives with her divorced mother?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: It is permissible to give zakat to a niece if she is poor and does not own the equivalent of the nisab, which is 100 grams of gold. And God knows best.
