Question
Is it permissible for a man to pay Zakat al-Fitr to the children of his deceased brother? And is it permissible for a grandmother to pay it to the children of her deceased son?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: It is permissible to give Zakat al-Fitr as well as Zakat to relatives such as brothers, sisters, and their children, and there is the reward of charity and maintaining ties. However, a grandmother cannot give it to her grandchildren (the children of her son) because they are considered descendants. She may give it to their mother, and God knows best.
